ballpoint pens
Mu-pen is a unique ballpoint pen.
It origins from the idea of replacing the plastic of a famous ballpoint pen with glass and brass, two recyclable and eco-friendly materials.
Mu-pen was awarded as one of the most innovative and sustainable products of 2023 by Zero Waste Italy and the Zero Waste Research Centre (Capannori, Lucca).
Mu stands for Murania and Murano Island, but it is also related to the Egyptian hieroglyphic symbol for water.
The purity and transparency of glass contains and reflects the golden light of brass, creating a writing and drawing tool that takes inspiration from the Venetian Lagoon.
A natural and fully biodegradable fibre ensures the perfect combination between the brass of the refill and the common glass (soda-lime) of the barrel. Each glass barrel is hand finished, providing one-of-a-kind effects.
The spherical shape given to the tail end increases its impact resistance, while the micro hole ensures a balanced air pressure between the inside and the outside of the barrel, allowing a constant ink flowing.
The packaging is specifically designed also to protect the pen from shocks; it is made of 100% paper, glued with vegetable adhesive in total respect of the environment.
mupen comes in the version aqua (transparent) and mist (frosted, by hand with no use of acids), blue or black ink. mu-pen aqua is available in three more versions with Murano pearls or small rods.
Is Mu-pen fragile? Yes, like us and the planet on which we live. That's why the pen is plastic free and is made of common glass, which — on the contrary of crystal, borosilicate, and Pyrex glasses — is completely recyclable and can be disposed with glass bottles and jars.
Mu is also the name that the British-American archeologist Augustus Le Plongeon (1826-1909) gave to Atlantis, the perhaps legendary lost continent which should teach us that imagining a better world is possible and necessary, but must be here and now.
Safety Warning: not suitable for children.
orchid pots
Mu-pot is the first orchid pot entirely made of glass. It is a sustainable alternative to the commonly used orchid plastic pots as it is made of 100% widely recyclable glass.
The transparency of this material allows the roots to get the sunlight they need and us to see how they are growing, check their humidity status and the presence of pests.
The pot's size has been designed to guarantee a proper air flow. The hole in the bottom of the pot ensures a perfect drainage, preventing water stagnation to damage the roots.
Mu-pot is produced by upcycling food glass containers, which are hand finished and supported by hand-made Murano glass feet. The approximately 10mm hole in the bottom is also hand-made, and its imperfection is a characteristic of uniqueness.
Ideal for Phalaenopsis Orchids, commonly known as Butterfly Orchids for the shape of their beautiful flowers.
Mu-pot è is available in two versions: standard (diameter 9.5cm, height 9.6 approximately) and maxi (diameter 11.5cm, height 11.6 approximately).
